2011 Summer Session

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:

Wolf Creek Online High School is a continuous learning year (CLY) program based on status granted by the Minnesota Department of Education.  This means that students can attend school every month of the year.  Because of our CLY status, we assume that all students will take courses during the summer term.  Therefore, summer term is listed on the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) completed with your student’s learning manager.

In an effort to prepare for Summer 2011 and Fall 2011-2012, we need the attached form.  This form will provide valuable information about your plans for this summer and next fall. All Wolf Creek students are required to return the attached form

Summer term is the shortest term in the school year; therefore, students take fewer courses. Take a look at it and see if you would like to accelerate your learning through this option. If you plan to take classes in summer session, review the course options with your student’s learning manager. Students choosing to opt-out of summer term, will be permitted to return to Wolf Creek in fall term.

Students who have been part-time OLL students using supplemental services option would  change their status to full-time Wolf Creek students by choosing to enroll in summer term. Because of our CLY status, students must be enrolled as a full-time Wolf Creek student to take classes during the summer term.  At the end of summer, we would hope that students would remain as full-time students of Wolf Creek.  Please be aware that transferring schools can cause issues for student athletes. Please consult with your district’s athletic director before making this decision.

Provisions Notice:

This letter is intended for all students enrolling in Wolf Creek Online High School’s Continuous Learning Year (CLY) Program by participating in summer session.  Continuous Learning Year is a program that allows for acceleration of credits for students.  The program is an incentive program for student who wish to graduate sooner from high school than they would have without participating in the CLY program.

Please be advised that, although early high school graduation is advantageous to some students, it may not be the right choice for all students. The following provisions should be considered when enrolling with Wolf Creek Online High School:

·              >Students will be a fully enrolled student with the assumption that enrollment will continue until a diploma is earned.

·              >Students participating in a CLY program may have limits placed on other additional credit options later in the school
      year, such as ALC credits.

·             >Some health insurance companies will not cover a student on a family health plan after the student has graduated from
high school; please check this status with individual health providers.

·             >Early graduation means that students may no longer be eligible for PSEO options through the state of Minnesota.

Students who have concerns should contact their PSEO representative.

·            >Enrolling for summer means students are transferring from another school entity.  According to the MN State High
School League this transfer may result in the student being ineligible to participate in MSHSL sports for one full year at
the varsity level. Students should discuss their situations with the MSHSL at http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/index.asp.

We look forward to working with your student this summer and anticipate a successful term. We also wanted to make sure that this is the right option for your student before proceeding with enrollment.  Please note: by enrolling in summer term your student will be fully enrolled with Wolf Creek Online High School beginning June 28, 2011.
