524      INTERNET, COMPUTER,  AND EQUIPMENT USAGE

 

I.          INTRODUCTION

 

            The TRIO Wolf Creek Distance Learning Charter School considers the use of electronic information networks like Internet as an educational resource.  Proper use of the school’s Internet access and computer use is the responsibility of the individual user.  Misuse of the Internet, computer or equipment may lead to revocation of the employee, student, or agent’s Internet access and possible other discipline.

 

II.        SYSTEM PROPERTY RIGHTS

 

            The equipment, software, information, communication, processing and storage resources provided by the school are the sole property of the school.  Files, data and other communication created, originating from or stored on the school’s hardware, software, computer disks or other electronic systems are also the property of the school.  You may not install any software or hardware on school computers without consent from the school.

 

III.       PRIVACY

 

            At any time, the school can and will inspect information on files stored, processed or communicated by or through its information systems without further notice to users.  Any unauthorized software or files may be removed without notice.  Internet communications are not secure.  All passwords and I.D.’s must be kept confidential and not shared with unauthorized individuals.

 

IV.       ACCEPTABLE USE

 

            All school systems, equipment and Internet access are primarily for business related and/or educational purposes.  Employees may use their Internet facilities for non-business research or browsing during meal time or other breaks, or outside of work hours, provided that all other usage policies are adhered to.

 

V.        UNACCEPTABLE USE

 

            Users shall not use the school’s computers, equipment, internal or external e-mail or Internet access for any of the following purposes:

 

            1.         To access, upload, download, transmit, receive or distribute pornographic, obscene, abusive or sexually explicit materials.

 

            2.         To transmit or receive obscene, abusive or sexually explicit language or profanity.

 

            3.         To violate any local, state or federal law or engage in any type of illegal activities.  (gambling, copy written material, etc.)

 

            4.         To access, modify, or delete materials, information or files of another person or organization without permission.

 

            5.         To engage in any type of harassment or discrimination as based on current school policy.

 

            6.         To engage in any type of commercial enterprise unrelated to the specific purposes and needs of the school.

 

            7.         To engage in any form of solicitation.

 

            8.         To enter into financial or contractual obligations without prior expressed written consent of the School Board.  Any financial or contractual obligations entered into by a user without the expressed prior consent of the School Board shall be the sole responsibility of the user.

 

VI.       SCHOOL POLICY

 

            1.         All use of the computers, equipment and Internet access of the school shall be in compliance with all other school policies.

 

            2.         Employee access shall be subject to such additional rules, limitations and conditions as may be set by their supervisors.

 

VII.  NOTIFICATIONS

 

1.                  On a yearly basis the following will take place:

 The Charter School Director will add Internet Safety information to the school handbook. The Charter School Director will mail out Internet Safety information to families. The Charter School Director will make Internet Safety available on the school’s website and in the school newsletters.
