Carissa O’Kane is a senior at Wolf Creek.
She is taking a class at Wolf Creek and
also attending Anoka Ramsey as a PSEO
student. She is an excellent and
conscientious student and takes pride in
her coursework. Prior to coming to Wolf

plans to study Marketing. She has
outstanding communication skills and I am
really proud of her!
Austin
Drewlo came to Wolf Creek last week, and
has stood out as a stellar student since
day one. In the last year he has also
grown outside the classroom. Austin has a
great sense of humor, but sometimes didn’t
know when to use it and when not to
J
He has definitely worked on this! This
quarter was also the first time I saw
Austin challenged by his schoolwork, as
most things come very natural to him.
Watching him work through one of our
toughest classes has been enjoyable
because again, he is growing so much.
Learning resiliency, and that it is okay
to ask for help. On a side note, he can
also put in a 12 hour day in lab with a
smile on his face! And he never fails to
make his LM laugh!

Wolf Creek Online High School Graduation
2011
Chisago County Press
This year Wolf Creek Online High School
was thrilled to celebrate the class of
2011 with fifty-four graduates. These
students are residents of Andover,
Beltrami, Cambridge, Center City, Chisago
City, Eagan, Forest Lake, Hugo, Lindstrom,
North Branch, Princeton, Rush City,
Scandia, Shafer, Stacy, St. Paul, Taylors
Falls, and Wyoming. The commencement
ceremony was held at Lakeside Elementary
School in Chisago City on Friday, June 10,
2011. Mayor Bob Gustafson and
Representative Bob Berret were in
attendance amongst approximately
two-hundred guests who came to honor and
celebrate the graduating class.
The crowd rose when the students filed in
one at a time distinguishably to the “Pomp
and Circumstance March.” Smiles and
cheers went out to the class as family and
friends relished the moment they had been
waiting for. Director Tracy Quarnstrom
began the evening with introductions and
special thanks to Chisago Lakes School
District for its continued sponsorship.
Speaking on behalf of the student body
were three of Wolf Creek’s distinguished
students, Damon Medek, Holly Strandmark,
and Heather Ellis. Each student delivered
an emotional speech on how well Online
Learning has worked for them both
academically and personally. The evening
hit a high note when Wolf Creek Learning
Manager Laura Welciek performed “The
River,” by Garth Brooks. This was followed
by a compelling speech called,
“Perspective,” by Learning Manager Dave
Thomas. He addressed the graduates with
examples of difficult situations they may
encounter in the future. He shared with
them a secret weapon towards success and
happiness where he encouraged the students
to face dilemmas with optimism and to
always remain positive.
Staff member of the year Becki Olseen
presented graduates, Heather Ellis, Lauren
Jewell, and Wren Larson with the Wolf
Creek Alumni Scholarship Award. The
Chisago Lakes Lions Scholarship was then
awarded to Kalli Frost. All four
recipients stood and welcomed a well
deserved round of applause. Mrs. Welciek
delivered another memorable performance as
the crowd anxiously awaited the
presentation of diplomas.
Clad in blue robes each student walked to
the podium as faculty members Jessie
Shores and Sheryl Palmquist read
personalized remarks about each student
including their future plans, hobbies,
favorite music, favorite quotes, how
online learning worked for them, and a
special message from the Wolf Creek
staff. School Board Chair, Jeffrey
Vitali, handed the students their diplomas
and all staff members eagerly
congratulated them with exchanges of
gratitude and praise.
Tracy Quarnstrom had the students move
their tassels from right to left to
signify that they had officially graduated
and presented the Wolf Creek Online High
School class of 2011. When asking a
faculty member what makes this
commencement ceremony so unique to others
she replied, “Every year we receive praise
from students and families about the
personalized approach Wolf Creek has and
how much we’ve done for them. It’s
exciting and energizing to know we’ve made
a difference in their lives.” Brenda
Swanson, Dean of Students.
