Tax Credit Information

EDUCATIONAL TAX CREDIT REMINDER

All families should investigate the educational credit tax deductions that may be available to you.  We encourage you to discuss these items with your tax specialist to see if you qualify.  The following is general information on what is allowable under the tax credit. Each individual will need to consult with your own tax specialist to see if you qualify for the educational credit.

-Computer hardware and educational software, maximum $200 for subtraction and $200
for a credit (if income qualifies)
-Software purchased to access the internet but not monthly service providers

RE: TAX CREDITS

Hello,

I am the staff tax attorney at the Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance Tax Law Project.  In an effort to make sure that parents take advantage of tax credits and savings available to them,  I would like to share some useful information about the Minnesota State K-12 Education Tax Credit and K-12 Education Subtraction.  I have created a fact sheet that can be sent home with students to remind parents in your district to save receipts for school supplies and other education related expenses, so they can claim either the credit or deduction on their Minnesota State tax return.  The fact sheet can be found at:

The fact sheet is available in English, Hmong, Oromo, Russian, Spanish and Somali.  If you find that you need it translated into another language please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your needs. I hope that you find this information helpful.  Please feel free to call me at (612) 746-3777 with any questions or if you would like any additional information.

Thank you,

Sarah Bronson
