Graduation Committee Notes- Tuesday 5/5/09 @ 3:00pm
We have our biggest class ever!!
We currently have 44 seniors who have said YES to walking in the graduation ceremony!!
I have put out notice that seniors need to limit the guest count to 5- that could still be 220 + 44 grads + 18 staff and board member at minimum.
I people are already complaining.
What if it rains?? How will we fit everyone in a tent?
Should we have tickets for chairs?
Should be go with the community center again? They have an opening on June 5th.
Should we try the local elementary gym?
In attendance Swanson, Quarnstrom, Janusch, Palmquist, Taran Warren,
Sandy Flint
The above items were discussed.
We discussed moving ceremony to:
Tents at TWC- too many people, limit tickets, rain
Lindstrom Comm
Center- too small .
CLHS PAC- full
CLHS auditorium- too many issues with CLHS feelings for kids,
Lakeside Elementary school- YES ( Quarnstrom , Swanson and Palmquist toured- we
think it is a great fit and it is free!! They have stadium seating for 300 plus
100 folding chairs. Parking may be an issues, we can park on the city street but
must notify Police of our event.
Committee discussion:
Cookies not cake- less mess, less work, less supplies- more able to mingle
Pop & water- not punch and coffee- less work
We would like a photographer on site for families to order packages , maybe TWC pay for 1 photo?
Tickets – number do we need to limit?
Swanson will cancel tents and chairs, send home mailing with gradation info.
Quarnstrom will confirm Lakeside with Heide and order chairs and 10 tables
Palmquist- will call on cookies, balloons, photographer
We need senior speakers, singers, ushers, precereomny music
We need flowers, decorations, gift bags
Graduation Meeting Minutes from December 9, 2008
4:45 pm
Present-Tracy Quarnstrom-Dawn Janusch-Sheryl Palmquist
The PAC Is not available
The Lakeside auditorium is available
The Lindstrom Community Center is available
Our building is available but will have space constraints
The location appears to be TWC in either scenario as our favored location from the committee.
If it rains we will have a tent rented and will have the
ceremony in the tent ( that will seat about 250) and cost around $1000 with
chairs needed.
After the event if it rains we will have cookies in punch inside ( in several
areas great room-LS and Blue lab with slide show running)
All of these scenarios have a max of 250 people and tickets will need to be
distributed if it rains.
Maximim capacity of building is going to be 292 TOTAL
If in the tent we may need a stage ( Can we rent one-make one?)
Dawn has lots of prices on tents here also.
Anita collected some pricing too.
We are thinking if we have 40 graduates we could do 7 tickets a piece and let them know in advance.
If it is nice we can have the ceremony outside and not have tickets but we need spots for people to put lawn chairs. Remember that we will also have a tent on the grass back in the garden area, still have the tent on order and use it for refreshments and only a few people inside for bathrooms so maybe no tickets are needed.
We should present to board in January as ordering the tents is recommended by February 1st and we need $1000 for the tent also.
Next meeting may be after January board meeting but we want to check on Director evaluation for time and when to start our meeting
Graduation committee minutes from 11/18/2008
5pm
Present-Brenda Swanson, Tracy Quarnstrom, Sheryl Palmquist, Dawn Janusch
The committee discussed a facility for the graduation ceremony planned for June 5, 2009.
Discussions of the fire capacity of the building were entered into and Quarnstrom reported that she has requested this data from Dave Linner and will get back to the group on specifics.
The group felt that an outdoor ceremony would work if the weather was good. Bad weather alternatives include Lions Park in Lindstrom-PAC at CLHS-Auditorium at Lakeside-different day at TWC or outdoor tents.
· Quarnstrom to investigate PAC and Lakeside options
· Swanson to call Lions Park to see if they are even open on June 5th at this point.
· Palmquist and Janusch to investigate tent options and pricing.
The group will be gathering information from all of the above sources and will come back together for December 9th graduation meeting for further discussions.
Next Meeting December 9th at 4:30
Graduation Credits Committee notes from a June 25, 2006 meeting
After working with MDE it is understood that since TRIO Wolf Creek school has
CLY (Continuous Learning Year) status, students are able to accelerate their
learning and graduate early. Therefore, it is required by MDE that we
progress students by credits and not by years in school.
CLY programs can earn over 1.0 ADM for funding. Students taking advantage of the CLY option allow the school to earn up to 1.2 ADM for funding. Due to the school earning the additional funding over the years, it allows the student to exit/graduate early after obtaining the required credits needed to graduate. Lastly, only a student listed as a senior on the Skyward /MARSS Reporting System can have a graduation code and therefore able to graduate.
It is the Graduation Credits Committee recommendation that the following
progress by credits codes be used for students starting in the 2007-08 school
year. Students would be coded in Skyward at entrance. Lastly, students
requesting a status change will need to file the form with the Dean of Students
by the end of third quarter; status changes will be updated on May 1st.
According to MDE; they will take a collection of data on January 31 for MCA II Testing. So the above dates will work with state testing.

According to Sharon Peck at MDE:
The intent of learning year is that
students accelerate attainment of credits commensurate with the ADM they
generate. So, no, a student does not need to be behind in credits to
participate in learning year. However, once they have the credits needed to
graduate, they must be withdrawn. An enrolled student who earns an F in a course
due to poor performance as opposed to dropping the course, still generates
membership and funding.

The Credits Committee met at
The main focus of the discussion is whether to call students 9th grade, 10th grade etc. based on progression of years in school or based on a credit requirement.
Most schools just base the grade in school on the a grade progression. The situation makes for some 11th grade students testing who have received very few credits and have not taken enough math courses to be prepared for the MCA II’s at that point in time.
MDE contacts made through the following people ( emails on file also)
Tracy Cerda
Dirk Mattson
Glory Kibble
And others have stated that is up to school board which way they want to classify students.
If
Swanson and Palmquist reported that this will be a lot of work and also needs
to be discussed with Ken Orwall our MARSS contact person in order to complete
the task. Quarnstrom and Palmquist will
be in charge of discussing this with Orwall.
Looking at data it appears that if we went with a credit
requirement 15 current juniors would not be considered juniors at this
point. This would be
We need to also contact Dirk Mattson about what happens if a student is a 10th grader for 2 years. Do they take the MCA II for reading twice? Quarnstrom reported that she would contact MDE about this question.
Quarnstrom also reported a need to call other schools and
charter schools to see how others are classifying their students by grade. It is a belief that
